Chrome Extensions

The one area that has kept Google Chrome, the newest browser, from gaining a stronger foothold among the geek-ier folks is the fact it remains pretty much as issued and that simply means it hasn’t been deuced up by customization through add-ons like GreaseMonkey in Firefox.
Until now. Google is now launching an effort to make it possible for developers to offer extensions to Chrome just like Firefox.
The loser in this will, of course, be Firefox. Firefox has worked very hard to move people from IE to the Mozilla camp and have done pretty well at it. There has always been a great grass-roots movement out there for Firefox. But nothing can compare to the masses Google can bring.
The ability to install third-party applications that add capabilities chosen by users, but not provided by Mozilla, is a key reason for the open source browser’s popularity.
And who will the winner of this fight be? Believe it or not, it could be IE. This looks like the makings of a good political race with three candidates. Two of them dilute the other’s strength and the third waltzes in to claim the victory.
