Better Vista
Posted on October 21, 2008
As we suspected, Steve Ballmer has verified in a recent interview with Gartner analysts that Windows 7 is ‘a better Vista’.
That is exactly the reason it can be pushed out as quickly as the timeline currently indicates because it has been placed in the development cycle ahead of the originally announced version 7 of Windows.
Ballmer seemed to bristle a bit when the suggestion was made that this new version would really be Vista Release 2, when in reality that is exactly what it is. Seemingly eager to step away from the Vista name and association, he avowed that the so-called 2nd release of Vista had already occurred and was called Service Pack 1, ultimaltely intimating that Microsoft had been able to essentially rollout a 1.+ version of its OS just by the release of a bug fixing service pack.
Gee, if they go ahead and get SP2 released by the time that 7 is ready for release, the new version may never need a service pack of its own. Ya think?
