XP SP3
Posted on April 15, 2008
The third service pack for Windows XP should be coming soon, though Microsoft is keeping its lips sealed as to the official date. Some claim general availability by the end of April. Though Microsoft is wanting users to migrate to Vista, many users remain on XP, and good housekeeping is a necessity.
Now that the first service pack for Windows Vista has been released, and XP users are trying to get Microsoft to extend the life cycle of the OS, the time has come for what may be XP’s final SP. Microsoft declined to confirm or deny the time of release and said only that it expects SP3 to be available in the first half of 2008. SP3 will bring users a variety of updates that have been released since Windows XP SP2 rolled out in August 2004.
It will include all previously released updates for XP, such as security improvements and hotfixes, in all containing some 1,100 hotfixes and patches. It also includes new features such as the Network Access Protection (NAP) Module, Black Hole Router Detection and Kernel Mode Cryptographics Module from Microsoft.
‘Tis a shame that Microsoft still hasn’t gotten the message that consumers (both corporate and residential) are much dissatisfied with Vista and want to either see the cycle to Windows 7 sped up or, preferably, XP to remain on the market.
