Even Faster

Comcast has announced that folks in the Twin Cities will be the first to check out their new Internet service which brings downloads in at around 50Mbps and uploads up to 5Mbps. As one would expect, this comes at a price — around $150 per month. A bit tasty to me, but as with everything else there is a market segment for it. There’s always a segment for speed.
If you think just in relative terms, it’s not that bad. AT&T in most places gets like $42.95 for 6Mb, so on a byte for byte basis, the new service would come in around $350 or so. Ouch! It’s already ouch on the $150 so octuplet ouch or such on the $350.
Verizon says no big deal, they are already offering 50 up and 20 down in select markets in 6 states for around $140 per month. Comcast has plans to up the ante to 100Mbps over the next 2 years with the next planned level to reach 160Mbps.
And as for dial-up customers………still they wait.
