YouTube Marketing?
Posted on March 27, 2008
Surely Google would find a way to really leverage the buyout of YouTube (1.65Bil.) to bring real bucks into the coffers. Now we may have the first real hint of how they have laid out their plans to do so.
Announcement has been made today of a new analytical tool for users to research the reach and impact of videos they upload. So now you can upload the video of your kitty cat trying to jump across a cabinet and falling again and again and find out that in two weeks all of 63 people, 29 of which are in Uruguay, have viewed it.
That has little meaning to the bulk of junk stuff on YouTube but it has great implications to those who are and will be using it as a marketing tool. Another branch of advertising is opening up. With Google providing viewer analysis, it becomes much like watching the statistics of a website and adjusting content and offers to the browsing public. Expect then that Google will offer video marketing (it’s already offered to Adwords clients as an option in their advertising plan) directly on YouTube, collecting fees along the way.
It remains to be seen just what approach they take so the appeal of YouTube doesn’t get diluted by the advertising….we pause for a catnip commercial before we show you the next silly cat vid.
