Here are a few sites that provide solutions for things we need to do or give fresh insights to things we already do. Sometimes we do things the same old way not knowing there is a better way or we think there is no way to do what we need.

  • You’ve got a phone number you’re supposed to call but no idea where it’s located? Then try tp2location to get the general area and the telecom carrier.
  • Need to help insure you don’t get spammed? Lots of times you need to enter an email address at a site to receive info. Some are not too nice and wind up getting you nailed with loads of junk. Try Guerrilla Mail to get a disposable address that only lasts 15 minutes. Plenty of time, however, to receive the email you’re looking for before the address is deleted. You check your mail at the site. There a number of these services around. An even smoother solution to the same problem is Trashmail which allows you to configure your settings for the account to be deleted from 1 day to 6 months and to set the total number of emails you are willing to receive. Another great feature is forwarding which allows you to receive the temporary emails at your regular account. Very nice. Also, if you are a user of Firefox, Trashmail is offered as an extension which provides the ability to enter a fresh disposable address at any site by just right-clicking and selecting ‘Paste disposable address’. Very, very nice.
  • Do you throw away stuff rather than getting it repaired because you figure you can’t justify the cost anyway? With labor rates as they are, even the bench fees may be enough to trash something, not to mention the actual repair cost. Well, now there’s help. Try the Fix-It Club, a no cost online guide to over 175 repairs. Even if you don’t feel handy enough to try a repair yourself, you might at least get an idea of what the repair involves, helping you decide if you really are better off sending it to the curb.
  • Looking for instructional videos? Find a wide variety, categorized for you, at Sclipo. Much easier than searching by keyword at some of the leading sites.
  • Check out LivePlasma for a generated plethora of information on Music or Movies. You’ve got to do this one just for fun. Watch in amazement at the thematic maps that develop, and of course, you can drill down to get even more precise information. Try something like typing in ‘John Wayne’ and clicking Actor. Enjoy!
